Netflix Outer Banks fans spot ‘major betrayal’ in season 4, part 2 trailer – but they’re not surprised

Netflix’s Outer Banks will return for part two of season four this week

The next five episodes of Outer Banks season four are tantalisingly close, and the latest trailer has sparked excitement among fans with glimpses of the upcoming adventures.

The second part is set for release this Thursday, November 7, as we see the Pogues continue their treasure-seeking escapades in Morocco.

The midseason finale last month ended on a bombshell with the revelation that JJ Maybank (played by Rudy Pankow) isn’t Luke’s (Gary Weeks) biological son but instead, the son of Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane) and Larissa Genrette, who was presumed dead alongside her infant years prior.

With the arrival of the new trailer, Netflix users have begun speculating over the fates of their favourite characters, particularly after spotting a chilling moment where Rafe Cameron (Drew Starkey) seems to threaten John B Routledge (Chase Stokes) with a knife.

One observant fan took to Reddit saying, “I was watching the trailer again when I noticed Rafe pulling out a knife on John B,” adding further intrigue because, “This went unnoticed I think bcz I saw nobody talking about it. What do you guys thinks? Will Rafe betray the pogues when he finally gets the treasure??”, reports the Mirror.

While Rafe appeared to be on a path to reconciliation with his sister Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline) at the end of the last season, his potential return to his darker ways might seem unexpected to some.

Yet, long-time watchers may find this development less surprising given Rafe’s history of imperilling the group across the first three seasons.

Responding to the newfound speculation, one viewer succinctly said: “That is on brand for Rafe.”

“Not surprised tbh I mean it’s Rafe,” commented one person, with the original poster replying: “My a** thought he was having his redemption arc.”

“Can’t betray someone you ain’t cool with to begin with. None of this is surprising,” noted another fan.

While some followers of the show believe the trailer might be leading viewers astray and suggest Rafe could actually side with the Pogues in the upcoming episodes.

“All I know is a big name is dying this season not sure who I just know someone is but I think rafe is gonna help them actually,” theorised one fan.

Meanwhile, another suggested: “I think he’s gonna have his redemption episode for sure.”

At the moment, though, audience members are left with little more than the trailer to piece together their theories, awaiting with bated breath as Outer Banks season four, part two is set to launch shortly.

Netflix’s official summary teases: “Before they know it, they’re well in over their heads, with dangerous new enemies hot on their heels racing them to the treasure.”

“Meanwhile, their problems are only growing, and they’re forced to question their past, present, and future – who they really are, has it all been worth it, and how much are they willing to risk?”
