Outer Banks creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke teased the future of the hit Netflix show, after recently receiving an early Season 5 renewal. This comes after the coming-of-age adventure drama just debuted the remaining five episodes of its fourth season, which are now available for streaming on Netflix.
Prior to the Season 4 Part 2 release, Netflix announced that the Outer Banks is officially coming back for a fifth and final season, which is now in pre-production with the creative team still working on the scripts. Despite the show’s nearing end, it seems like the Outer Banks may continue to live on in the form of potential spinoffs. During a recent interview with Deadline, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke expressed their desire to continue telling new stories set within the franchise. “We are excited for Season 5, and we’re excited for other stories in this universe down the line,” they said.
Outer Banks is also executive produced by Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke, with the latter two also serving as writers. The series takes place in a small community in North Carolina, which revolves around two rival groups of treasure-seeking teenagers. It currently stars Chase Stokes as John B., Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, Madison Bailey as Kiara, Jonathan Daviss as Pope, Rudy Pankow as JJ, Carlacia Grant as Cleo, Drew Starkey as Rafe, Austin North as Topper, Fiona Palomo as Sofia, J. Anthony Crane as Chandler Groff, Pollyanna McIntosh as Dalia, Brianna Brown as Hollis Robinson, Rigo Sanchez as Lightner, Mia Challis as Ruthie, and Cullen Moss Shoupe.
The official synopsis for the latest installment of Outer Banks reads, “Season 4 takes us back in time to the lead-up of that moment. After finding the gold at El Dorado, the Pogues return to the OBX and commit to having a ‘normal’ life. They’ve built themselves a new safe haven, officially dubbed ‘Poguelandia 2.0,’ where they live together and run a fairly successful bait, tackle, and charter tour shop. But after some financial setbacks, John B, Sarah, Kiara, JJ, Pope, and Cleo take Wes up on his offer, drawn back into the ‘G’ game for a whole new adventure. But before they know it, they’re well in over their heads, with dangerous new enemies hot on their heels racing them to the treasure. Meanwhile, their problems are only growing, and they’re forced to question their past, present, and future – who they really are, has it all been worth it, and how much are they willing to risk?”
Outer Banks Scores Its Highest-Rated Season
Since the return of the Outer Banks last Oct. 10, Season 4 has now become the show’s highest-rated installment on Rotten Tomatoes, with a Tomatometer score of 100%. Some of the critics praised the show for being able to get the story back on track. As Felipe Rangel of Screen Rant said, “Outer Banks season 4 – Part 1 continues what the series does best, using the chemistry between the Pogues to deliver another thrilling treasure hunt.” Out of all the seasons, last year’s third installment received the lowest-rated score on Rotten Tomatoes, with only 56%.
