A Man on the Inside creator Mike Schur gives an optimistic update on season 2. Debuting on Netflix in late November, the eight-episode comedy reunites Schur with television veteran Ted Danson, as they previously worked together on Schur’s twisty series The Good Place. In their latest collaboration, Danson plays a former university professor who is recruited to help figure out a case of stolen jewelry at an upscale retirement home. The main cast of A Man on the Inside also includes Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz.
In an interview with Deadline, along with Danson, Schur addressed the possibility of A Man on the Inside coming back for season 2. The three-time Emmy winner indicated that it was still too early to know about the status of season 2. However, Schur added that there are ideas for the show’s future, and he hopes that it will happen, explaining:
“We’re sort of in a fingers crossed, we’ll that bridge when we come to it, kind of a deal. But I will say that there is no shortage of ideas from me and from other writers about what we might do in a future season. Fingers crossed, we’ll see”
What Schur’s Comments Mean For A Man On The Inside
Keep An Eye On The Streaming Charts
In the finale of A Man on the Inside season 1, Charles Nieuwendyk (Danson) solves the case of the missing necklace. Even though she’s reluctant to do so, Julie (Estrada) contacts him to help solve another mystery. Charles accepts, though viewers don’t know any details about what this next mystery entails. It’s a tiny dangling event, left there if the series is renewed. It’s also a setup that potentially lends itself to several additional seasons.
As for whether A Man on the Inside will be brought back, it’s too early to tell. One thing to pay attention to, in the coming weeks and months, is how well the Netflix Original performs on the streamer’s weekly Top 10 rankings. There are also outside measurements of a show’s popularity, mainly Nielsen’s streaming charts. If the Danson comedy performs well on those, it will likely get a quick renewal. For reference, Nobody Wants This season 2 was confirmed by Netflix after only a few weeks because it was clear that the romantic comedy series was a hit.
