They’ve worked together many times before starring in Nobody Wants This
The stars of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This aren’t just on-screen lovers – they’re also best pals. While they seem to have great romantic chemistry, Adam Brody and Kristen Bell actually have one of the most wholesome friendships ever. The two have worked together loads of times in the past, and have some hilarious stories which they’ve shared over the years. Here’s an inside look into Kristen Bell and Adam Brody’s friendship over the years.
They’ve worked together many times before Nobody Wants This
Kristen Bell and Adam Brody’s friendship goes right back to the early 2010s. In 2011, they were both in the fourth Scream movie, but didn’t share any scenes together. They were exes in Some Girl(s), and briefly love interests in House of Lies. Adam Brody is also married to Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester, which Kristen Bell narrated. This is a friendship invisible string if I’ve ever seen one.
Neither of them can remember where they first met
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, neither of them could remember the actual first time they met. In fact, Adam’s only significant memory of meeting her was during a screening of the fourth Scream movie.
Adam described how Kristen “folded” herself into the back of their two-seater car because she needed a lift to the after party, which Kristen doesn’t remember but believes is “on brand” for something she would do.
Adam’s agent is married to Kristen’s stylist
If you thought Kristen Bell and Adam Brody’s friendship couldn’t be any more written in the stars, Adam’s longtime agent is actually married to Kristen’s longtime stylist. How adorable!
Kristen desperately wanted Adam to be cast as Noah in Nobody Wants this
Kristen seemed very set on getting Adam cast as her co-star on the hit Netflix show: “The reason I thought it could only be Adam is because, as an actor, I’m acutely aware of what other actors do well and do not do well. Adam can stare longingly into someone’s eyes for an extended period of time — and so can I.”
She spoke about Adam’s acting skills in very high regard: “If someone can hold it with you and you know that they can stay in that eye-contact space, you are going to crack a lens.”
They were both so nervous to film *that* kissing scene
The truth is, the two were “both so nervous” when filming that iconic scene! Adam told Harper’s Bazaar that the script read “the greatest kiss of all time” which is definitely no pressure at all.
Bell also laughed that “there was a man who wanted to be very involved in the scene” who was “very vocal during the takes,” as well as “disconcerting paparazzi,” which all made the atmosphere a little weird.
Despite the nerves, Adam actually thought their previous friendship benefitted them in a role like this: “I do think having worked together before, knowing that we got along, knowing that we work well together — you know there’s a high floor, if that’s the phrase. You’re starting from a good place. How high you can go, is still an open question.”
They think its cute that people ship them, but there’s no romance between them
The two were “flattered” by the public thinking they make a good couple, but put it down to having achieved their goal of being a good actor.
Adam believes the reason they have such great on-screen chemistry is because they were “selling [viewers] on the friendship.”
“I’ve been a fan of Kristen’s for a very long time. I think she’s a flawless comedian and actor all around. I still can see you in modes I haven’t even seen you in yet, but I know you know you can do it and I can picture it, because I think you’re tonally very, very versatile,” Adam said.
Kristen remarked that “he’s easy to work with and fun on set was also a huge contributing factor.” I guess the secret behind great romcoms is to be friends off-screen!
