Nicki Minaj Makes BET Hip-Hop Awards History with Groundbreaking Win

Nicki Minaj recently made history by winning Album Of The Year for Pink Friday 2 at the 2024 BET Hip-Hop Awards. She is the first solo female artist to achieve this, competing against big names like Drake, Megan Thee Stallion, 21 Savage, and GloRilla.

The awards show aired on October 15, but Nicki’s reaction was surprisingly low-key. In reply to a post on Twitter/X about her win, she shared a meme featuring Chucky from the Child’s Play movies biting a woman’s arm. This response isn’t too surprising given her past issues with the BET Hip-Hop Awards, which trace back to a controversial tweet from BET in 2019 that followed Cardi B’s Grammy win. The tweet read, “Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj is being dragged by her lacefront.” After that, Nicki announced that neither she nor Young Money would perform at the BET Experience music festival, stating, “Young Money will no longer be apart of the BET Experience or award show.” She criticized the BET Awards later on, saying it felt more like a messy reality show than a prestigious event.

Nicki’s lack of excitement over her award comes just after she hinted at taking a break on Stationhead. “I am doing a hiatus,” she informed her fans earlier this month. “But I have the Vogue thing, which I’m very proud and honored to do, and a couple things and then I’ll be taking a little moment to reflect.” Keep it locked to 103.5 The Beat for more!
